CDS 2 Notification 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
- A candidate must be unmarried and must fall into one of the following categories:
- (i) Citizen of India
- (ii) Subject of Nepal
- (iii) Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- Candidates belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, except for Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
- Candidates requiring a certificate of eligibility may be provisionally admitted to the examination, subject to obtaining the necessary certificate from the Government before the declaration of the result by UPSC.
Age Limit
- The age limit for candidates applying for the CDS Exam 2023 is as follows:
- The candidate must be between 20 to 24 years old as of 1st July, 2024.
- The candidate should have been born not earlier than 2nd July, 2000, and not later than 1st July, 2004.
- Candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) have relaxation in the upper age limit.
- The upper age limit for candidates with a valid Commercial Pilot License is relaxable up to 26 years.
- For candidates with a valid Commercial Pilot License, the candidate should have been born not earlier than 2nd July, 1998, and not later than 1st July, 2004.
Educational Qualifications
(i) For Indian Military Academy (I.M.A.) and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai:
- A candidate must possess a degree from a recognized university or its equivalent.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy:
- A candidate must have a degree in Engineering from a recognized university or institution.
(iii) For Air Force Academy:
- A candidate must have a degree from a recognized university.
- Additionally, candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level.
- Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor of Engineering degree are also eligible.
Candidates with Army/Navy/Air Force as their first choice are required to submit proof of graduation/provisional certificates at the commencement of the SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview.

- Maximum Marks:
- The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and interviews are equal for each course.
- The maximum marks for the written examination and interviews are as follows:
- Indian Military Academy: 300 marks each
- Indian Naval Academy: 300 marks each
- Air Force Academy: 300 marks each
- Officers’ Training Academy: 200 marks each
- Question Format:
- The papers in all subjects will consist of objective type questions only.
- The question papers for General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.
- Metric System:
- In question papers, questions involving the metric system of Weights and Measures will be set when necessary.
- Writing Answers:
- Candidates must write the papers in their own hand.
- They are not allowed to use a scribe to write answers on their behalf.
- Qualifying Marks:
- The Commission has the discretion to determine the qualifying marks in any or all subjects of the examination.
- Use of Calculator:
- Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets).
- They should not bring calculators into the Examination Hall.
